Activities:
There is an amazing selection of
interesting activities to choose from in Wilkes County or
nearby. You are sure to find the perfect
activities to create a memorable event that your people will be
talking about for years. Here is a sample.
Some of these activities might appeal to men more than
women but no worries. If a group of women
want to tour our armory, go off-roading or wild hog hunting,
they can! Here are a few ideas:
|
-
Activities at Clark Hill Lake
including pontoon boat rides to tour the lake,
fishing or dinner cruises on a houseboat or cruiser.
(Limited to crowd size)
-
National Guard Armory-All kinds of tanks, trucks and
other guy stuff. Very friendly
fellows will give you a tour.
-
Wilkes County Airport-A vital part of our community
that recently underwent an expansion and is on track
to expand to 5000 feet in the not too distant
future. This airport can handle
any business jet. It is a full
service airport with a jet porter. The manager is a
friendly and knowledgeable fellow and I can arrange
a tour.
-
Off roading with your choice of dirt bikes, ATV’s,
side x sides, jeeps, 4 x 4’s, rock crawlers.
Wow! Your guys will end up
dirty, but have a blast!
-
Washington has 3 museums. We can
arrange a riding tour of historical sites such as
the Chennault Plantation or whatever you are
interested in or tour any or all the museums.
One of our local historians also can do a
fascinating walking tour.
-
Plantation Tour-A plantation tour that can show you
how life was in Wilkes County 200 years ago.
-
Many famous people are buried in Resthaven Cemetery.
An interpretive tour of this historic
cemetery can be arranged. Every
October we have a program put on by the Washington
Historical Society called Resthaven Revisited.
This evening the dead rise up out of their
crypts to tell the attendees about their
contributions.
-
Ghost Tour-Walking or riding. It
is said that all old houses are haunted.
This is the case in Washington what with all
the antebellum and Victorian homes.
If our resident ghost expert is in town, I
can offer a ghost tour.
-
Goodness Grows Nursery Lexington-This plant nursery
is a must see for the landscape gardener.
Goodness Grows is a famous nursery that has
developed some of their own cultivars and touring
the grounds is a wonderful experience.
I suggest a box lunch on their grounds before
or after the tour.
-
Wild hog hunting. Wild hogs are a
big agricultural problem is Georgia.
If you are interested in Wild hog hunting a
hunt can be arranged with a local guide.
Your own gun and hunting license are
required.
-
Car Collector’s Tour-Washington has a Memory
Cruisers Club and several citizens have extensive
antique and custom car collections
